Every week at Muddy Boots our Pre School children head out to our on-site fields to take part in Rugby Tots sessions, and we absolutely love it!
Our Rugby Boots instructor Rob comes to each site once a week and delivers two sessions, lasting approximately 30 minutes each. These structured play sessions take our children on a journey of sporting imagination, where they are supported and encouraged throughout each activity, learning how to catch, pass, kick and run with the ball.
As well as the more obvious coordination skills learnt and developed during the sessions, there are so many social skills which are developed and practised. The little ones have loads of opportunity to converse, develop their awareness of personal space, utilise their play skills, learn to cope with hearing no and even ‘losing a game’.
There are also ample opportunities to understand emotions, reading facial expressions & body language, as well recognising the different elements of someone’s voice, such as speed, pitch and intonation. They also have to deal with conflict, come up solutions as a team, and act not as an individual but a group of friends working together.
As you can imagine, the sessions are always fun, with lots of energy, enthusiasm & excitement, with a lot of the children asking throughout the week when the next Rugby Tots session will take place! The sessions run regardless of the weather and the sessions are fantastic for getting the children out and engaged even on the bleakest of days.
We are currently exploring the idea of which day the sessions should take place, and the benefit they would have for some of our younger children as well! We would love any and all feedback on the sessions, and whether your child(ren) enjoy & benefit from them!
