We are SUPER excited to be able to say that our Acomb Nursery is growing!
We are always reviewing our nursery practice to ensure we are providing the best possible care for every child who attends. One thing we have been focusing on recently is our daily routines and we have been looking at how to make this work successfully for all children regardless of the sessions they are attending.
What we have found is that for children who attend term time only, the routine is working less well than it does for our children who do longer days. Therefore, we have decided to create a new room for Term Time only children, and the room is called Innovators. We believe that every one of our little ones will be an innovator in their own way, changing the world as we know it, and we want to do all we can to nurture that!
ABOUT THE ROOM
Sarah Haigh – Sarah has worked in childcare for 19 years and is our Pioneers Manager. She has a passion for supporting children to be the best they can be and seeing children laugh and smile.
Lisa Soper – Lisa also works in Pioneers and worked in childcare for 20 years. She loves working with children because to inspire them and to be inspired by them. Lisa is passionate about giving children the best start in life.
Tamsin Finney – Tamsin has worked in childcare for 24 years and is normally found in our Investigators Room. Tamsin is well loved by children and families alike and her favourite thing about working with children is that now days are ever the same.
Jeanie Marchbank – Jeanie has worked in childcare for 7 years and is part of our Pioneers team but spend lots of time in our other rooms too. Jeanie is extremely popular with all the children and loves spending time supporting children to be ready for their fantastic futures.
As mentioned, the routine of the room is going to be custom designed to ensure our Innovators get the best out of their days:
- 9am: Children arrive and are welcomed by the team
- 9.15am: Morning/Welcome time
- 9.30-10.30am: Rolling, self-service snack
- 9.30-11.45pm: Free play/Forest Rangers
- 11.45-12pm: Morning children pick up time
- 12pm: Afternoon drop off
- 12.15pm: Afternoon/Welcome time
- 12.30-1.30pm: Rolling Lunch
- 12.30-2.45pm: Free play/Forest Rangers
- 2.45-3pm: Pick Up Time
Planning and learning will be the same as in other rooms and will be play-based learning which is planned in the moment around children’s interests. Throughout the day we will carry out some small group activities with children of all ages but particularly with the older children as they prepare for school.
These will be based around the children’s needs so could be based on a range of things such as communication skills, maths or phonics. The groups will normally be carried out by staff in the room but Hayley, our Early Years Teacher, will support with these and carry some out herself.
We are also really excited about our daily ‘Forest Rangers’ in our big garden where we will explore and learn more about the outdoors. The team already have lots of fun activities planned!
The new room is going to be based in our current Pioneers spaces, which are currently only utilised before and after school.
The rooms are kitted out with everything our little ones are going to need to allow their imaginations to run wild! This includes a playroom with a creative area, role play corner, a dining room and free flow access to our large outdoor garden space.
As nice as the indoor space is, outdoors is where we spend most of our time… as long as the sun is shining! With large fixed play equipment, vegetable plots and planters, a natural woodland area and large lawn for outdoor games, there will always be plenty to do!
